Ripe bananas are great for banana bread. And perhaps we should leave it at that and not interfere with the goodness of warm buttery hot banana bread. But when you have no time, do you usually throw the ripe bananas away? Well, the second best thing is freezing them for banana shakes/smoothies or its equivalent.
Peel the ripe bananas, cut them into approximately 1″ – 1 1/2″ segments and freeze them in quart size freezer bags! Just be sure that you get all the air out of the freezer bags, otherwise they will turn brown.
You can then use them as a main ingredient for smoothies! We learned this tip recently, and we have been reaping the benefits – money and calories!!! You no longer need yogurt or ice in your smoothies.
- 1 1/2 frozen bananas
- 4 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 T raw cacao or baking cocoa
- 2 T peanut butter
- Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth, adding more almond milk if necessary!
